Activity Expertise for Later Life

Amanda Hurst is a working Mum with 2 children at school. She works part time in the NHS as an occupational therapist but is somewhat dissatisfied with the constraints of this work. Unfortunately, her financial commitments mean that she can’t leave her NHS work until she has guaranteed earnings from another source.

Amanda is passionate about ensuring elderly people maintain their independence & wellbeing and consequently she has set up a business providing training, consultancy and support services on occupation, activities and environment for older people. In detail, she provides care homes, government bodies, charities & colleges with staff training & supervision, therapy, activity programme planning and occupational profiling all focused on older people. She has taken over 6 months to plan this business and initial feedback is extremely encouraging.

Amanda has attended several workshops and one-to-one advisory sessions. She has a detailed business plan and knows when she will be able to leave her NHS job & work on this business full-time. She comments:”The workshops have given me the confidence to make my ideas reality. Prior to the workshops I was scared of the legal, financial and tax side of a business. With BBV’s support I have been able to develop my idea into something that I can market. I found the marketing session invaluable for this. The individual business and legal advice has been excellent and I am able to continue to access this while my business develops. I have also found the networking opportunities invaluable to getting the business going.”

Amanda has gained many clients in Bolton & soon will be targeting other areas. She adds: “I would rate BBV’s services as 10 out of 10. Without the business start-up workshops and support my ideas would have remained ideas. I would not have had the knowledge, skills and confidence to turn the ideas into a reality. I would definitely recommend BBV to others in business.”
