Denise is Snap Happy with New Business Launch
When Denise Cashmore underwent a near death experience following a routine operation she never imagined that it would lead to her setting up a successful photography business.
“I had always had an extremely busy lifestyle and had worked a six day week in the retail industry” said Denise, “but in November 2005 when I had an operation to have a kidney removed everything changed forever.”

In what should have been a simple operation Denise nearly died and with months of recovery ahead of her she set her sights on learning photography and it soon became apparent that she was a natural.
“My husband John bought me a camera and each day I would take it out with me as I went for a short walk to aid my recovery. And each day as I walked a bit further, I would learn how to use the camera even more, what I saw through the lens amazed me and to be able to capture it was magical. I joined my local photographic club and to my surprise became a multi award winner in a variety of subjects.”
Earlier this year Denise came to Train 2000 where she received one-to-one help and advice in setting up her business Denise Cashmore Photography.
“After being ill, I knew I couldn’t go back to my old job” said Denise ”my life had changed dramatically, but when I told my husband that I wanted to be self-employed he was extremely worried as it meant we were losing one salary, but he knew how determined I was to succeed.”
Wedding Photography
“The support I received really helped me along the way, giving me the confidence and belief I needed. I have been extremely lucky as my business has really taken off and I have been inundated with requests to photograph weddings, portraits, nursery and school photographs and much more.”
One area that Denise is particularly focusing on and specialising in is pregnancy photography.
She said: “The pregnancy photography has really taken off and I am enjoying this part of my work a lot. For women to be photographed when they are pregnant and probably not feeing at their best, it is important that they are made to feel relaxed, confident and secure – and as a female photographer I am able to provide this as part of my photography service.”
Denise, who is from Little Sutton, has already won an award for one of her pregnancy photographs and says that this area of her business is expanding rapidly.
