Revisewise - inspiring young people to improve their results

WITH increased demand for private tuition to support students through their GCSE’s Stockport teacher Jody Hart spotted the potential to start up her own business.
Now, the innovative education entrepreneur has done just that by setting up REVISEWISE and is supporting young people with their studies throughout the Stockport area.
“My idea is to inspire young people to improve their results” said Jody, “through REVISEWISE they can do this in an environment where they can attend a one off study day and work with a small group of their peers to develop their skills.
“Working in a supportive and energetic select group helps nurture the student without putting them under the pressure of working in a private, one to one tuition environment.”
Jody continued: “we want to generate an informal yet hard working atmosphere where achievement and understanding will be applauded. We aim to undertake monthly workshops, with a number of subjects where students can cherry pick the areas they want to improve in.
“In my experience students want to learn, they work better with small but intense groups where they have made a choice to buy in to the learning”.
Jody has been working with advisors from women’s enterprise agency Train 2000, which has been contracted through Stockport Council and with Stockport Boost to deliver business support that is specific to the needs of women.
She heard about Train 2000 via word of mouth and contacted them back in October 2009. Since then she has been working with an advisor on a one to one basis to develop her business plan and marketing plans to launch the company under the Intensive Start Up Support contract.
She added: “Train 2000 guided me stage by stage through the business plan and directed me to useful contacts and information. I felt I came in with the spark of an idea and through their support have developed a very real business potential. Business planning was new to me and my advisor, Dee Kearney, demystified the process and made it feel possible that I could start my business at my own pace, which I am now doing.”
Jody’s first REVISEWISE workshop took place in November and was aimed at students hoping to achieve Grade A or B mathematicss. And, in December a further workshop was held for students who really wanted to achieve Grade C mathematics.
The first workshops were held in Cheadle, with more planned for the New Year.
